K-12 and Higher Education

Great educational environments encourage productivity because they are comfortable and have few noise distractions. Yet these results are challenging to get when system reliability, ease of service, cutting operational costs and providing great air quality are also priorities.

ClimateMaster recognizes these priorities for today’s schools and universities. Our geothermal heating and cooling systems and water loop heat pump systems are designed for dependability, lowering operating and installation costs, while creating quieter, more comfortable learning environment.

Considering that you also get ease of service with the added benefit of individual room control, now is the time to check out the many benefits of heating and cooling with ClimateMaster water-source heat pumps.

Reliable, Long Service Life

New innovations offer longer life expectancies for today’s schools. You should expect the same from the HVAC systems being placed inside your buildings. However, when it comes to longevity, not all systems are created equal.

Complex chillers and air handling systems often have a large number of moving parts that
will wear out over time. Water-source and geothermal heat pumps offer the advantage of
very few moving parts. Fewer moving parts lower the occurrence of parts replacement and extend equipment life. This simplicity of design allows ClimateMaster systems to provide average life spans of 20 years or more. In fact, there are a number of ClimateMaster units
that are still performing after 50 years – providing the continual comfort our customers
have come to expect.

In addition to testing new concept units, ClimateMaster’s state-of-the-art lab facility continually audits production units throughout year round to ensure quality performance
and reliability.

Servicing Made Easy and Simple

Both ClimateMaster geothermal and water loop heat pump systems are designed to be easy and affordable to maintain. Should a unit need to be shut down for service, only that classroom is affected — not the entire school, as with other systems. For routine maintenance, individual heat pump units are easy to access without disrupting classes at all.

Bowling Green State University’s newest residential communities, Centennial Hall and Falcon Heights, feature ClimateMaster water source heat pump systems.

  • No single point of failure of central equipment that can shut down the entire system if it stops operating
  • No chemical or other costs associated with the prevention of scaling & bacterial growth
  • No year-round tower operation (geothermal systems only)
  • No boiler to maintain (geothermal systems only)
  • Convenient standard parts availability

The Most Energy-Efficienct
HVAC Systems

Water-source heat pump heat exchangers are more efficient than air-cooled heat exchangers because of higher mass and thermal conductivity of water. Combine those inherent energy efficiency advantages of using water with ClimateMaster innovation and you have some of the world’s most efficient heating and cooling systems around. Our Tranquility 30 Series boasts an efficiency rating up to 30 when used with a ground loop.

Gloria Marshall Elementary School utilizes 66 ClimateMaster water-source heat pump units in their geothermal system.

Outside Air and Superior Air Quality

ClimateMaster geothermal heat pump systems operate without flames or combustible gas, which can release carbon dioxide or other gasses into an educational facility’s central duct system.

Schools are also faced with the issue of indoor air quality standards that require fresh air to be introduced into classrooms at a substantial rate. ClimateMaster systems offer solutions that economically condition 100% of the fresh air as a part of the heating and cooling system.

Zoning

ClimateMaster systems offer the ultimate in individual control with the ability to heat and cool separate classrooms or residence hall suites simultaneously upon demand.

This unique feature gives teachers the freedom to meet the comfort needs of their own classrooms, or students living in residence halls. The units also provide superior dehumidification as they cool for added comfort – especially beneficial in southern states.

Affordable Installation and Retrofitting

Installation costs are low for water-source heat pump systems, as the loop is uninsulated
and requires only two pipes, a supply and return, and can even be designed in a single pipe configuration. The central aspects of the system (pump, boiler, heat rejector) require a minimum of temperature controls and valves.

When looking at the installation cost of ClimateMaster geothermal systems, it is important to consider all costs in the lifetime of the system. Read more about commercial geothermal installation costs.

Quickly Achieve LEED Certification

Movements are underway to develop energy-efficient schools or refurbish existing facilities to set the example of how green buildings are the way of the future.

There is a new emphasis on revitalizing thousands of school buildings across the country in need of repair and upgrade. Such efforts on renovation are projected to not only save billions of dollars in energy, but to improve the working and learning environments.

There are a myriad of other great reasons to build or retrofit schools to be green and sustainable. ClimateMaster systems help quickly satisfy requirements for LEED Certification and make your schools and residence halls more livable, healthier and energy-efficient.

What’s more, many green buildings don’t cost any more to build than a conventional alternative.
